at Metis Engineering
Joe Holdsworth is the founder and CEO of Metis Engineering, a pioneering UK-based company specialising in advanced sensor systems for electric vehicles, motorsport, aerospace and battery safety. With over a decade of experience at the cutting edge of engineering, Joe brings a unique blend of technical depth and real-world application across sectors where performance, safety and innovation are paramount.
A graduate in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Southampton, Joe has built a career spanning high-stakes environments — from developing systems for nuclear submarines, to leading systems engineering for the Bloodhound Land Speed Record project. He has worked on next-generation propulsion at Reaction Engines, contributed to the electric airspeed world record project ACCEL, and developed vehicle control code for Jaguar’s I-PACE eTrophy, the world’s first all-electric touring car race series. Joe’s expertise spans system architecture, electronics and embedded software, always underpinned by a relentless drive for performance optimisation through better data. His belief that "no matter how good a system is, it can always be better" is what led him to establish Metis Engineering. The company is now trusted by OEMs, battery pack developers and electric vehicle innovators worldwide, with its flagship Cell Guard sensor delivering early warning of thermal runaway, VOCs, humidity ingress and shock events inside battery packs. At the core of Joe’s approach is the principle that accurate, high-resolution data is the key to better engineering. Through Metis Engineering, he continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in safety, efficiency and performance in the transition to electric and sustainable transport.Got a Question for Joe Holdsworth?
